  2. After making the chart in class today, one are where I am considered to have more power, is that I am straight. Being straight versus being queer has been an extremely controversial debate through out history. Since I am considered straight, I feel as if I have several unearned privileges that I have obtained for being straight. One is that I am able to get married in any state in the U.S. Only certain states in America have made gay marriage legal. I am not discriminated against. I will have a greater chance of getting hired. I am less likely to be bullied in school. People do not have to question my sexual orientation. When I read or watch a movie I can be sure that my sexual orientation will be represented. I socially will be accepted more and people will not judge me since I am straight. I can walk into any church and be welcomed warmly. I do not have to live in fear of what others think about my sexual orientation. I know that being straight means that I can receive any type of medical help with out being discriminated against. Since I am straight, I can walk anywhere in public with my boyfriend/ husband with out being stared at and judged. My feminity is not challenged by my sexual orientation. I am considered to hold a little bit more power over people that may be queer. I also am not asked to think about why I am straight versus being queer.

  4. While making a list in class about certain privileges I have something I didn’t necessarily ask for I realize I don’t really have much but the bit I do have I noticed how it does affect how im treated. Unfortunately being a black women in America I don’t really get to much of anything from that except a bunch of stereotypes thrown at me for no reason. Ones I don’t think are fair to throw at me but that’s besides the point. What I do get praised for and get privileges from, are the fact that im in college pursuing an education. I believe too that the fact that I am a black women people are actually quite surprised which is a bit of an insult and compliment rolled into one. So me just being enrolled into college gets me some respect that I may not even deserve because for all those people know I could be failing every single class im in at the moment.
